More details on the Central Park Five’s Federal Lawsuit against Donald Trump
According to CNN, the released members of the Central Park Five filed a lawsuit against Trump on Monday, October 21. The group reportedly asserted that Trump made “false and defamatory” statements about him during the September presidential debate against VP Kamala Harris.
In addition, the lawsuit asserts that Trump was deliberately “inattentive” when talking about the 1989 case. During the debate, Trump reportedly said that five men – who are now teenagers – pleaded guilty to raping a woman in Central Park. Furthermore, Trump accused the group of “injuring people, killing people” during the incident.
“Defendant Trump’s statements are false and defamatory in many respects. Plaintiffs have never pleaded guilty to the Central Park attack. Plaintiffs have all pleaded not guilty and maintained their innocence throughout their trials and incarceration, as well as after their release from prison,” part of the suit reads, per CNN. “No victims of the Central Park attack were killed.”

Per CNN, the group, which includes members Yusuf Salaam, Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson, Anthony Brown (formerly Antron McCray), and Corey Wisereportedly seeking compensation and damages from Trump. In addition, the suit asserts that Trump’s recent statements have defrauded him and caused him “severe emotional distress.”

According to TMZ, Steven Cheung, Trump’s spokesperson has issued a statement in response to the claims.
“This is just another Election Interference lawsuit, filed by desperate left-wing activists, in an attempt to distract the American people from the dangerous and failed liberal agenda of the Kamala Harris campaign,” Cheung said. “The formidable legal effort by Lyin’ Kamala’s allies to interfere in the election went nowhere and President Trump dominated as he marched to a historic victory for the American people on November 5.”
More Details on the “Five Freed” Case
According to NBC News, a woman was running in Central Park on April 19, 1989, when she was reportedly attacked and raped. Later, the five youths were charged with the crime. However, he maintained his innocence throughout the investigation and trial.
Despite this, the group was charged “with assaulting a female jogger.” In addition, the group was also charged with “another assault and robbery that occurred in Central Park,” according to NBC News. At the time, Trump reportedly took out an ad in the New York Times calling for his execution, per TMZ.

Each of the PEOPLE, each of the Central Park Five, or now the “Exonerated Five,” served between five and thirteen years in prison after being convicted. In 2002, the group was released after DNA reportedly identified a rape suspect, according to NBC News.
In 2014, the group reportedly sued New York City and won millions, per CNN.
