Kamala Harris delivered a policy speech on the economy today in Pittsburgh as longtime leader Donald Trump on the issue fell flat with voters. The vice president presented himself as a populist policy pragmatist, as his aides had promised, saying he would engage in what Franklin Roosevelt called “continuous experimentation”.
“I will not sell America to our competitors or our enemies,” Harris said.
The former president is still in the lead in terms of his perceived economic competence, but it has halved in recent weeks, according to an analysis by Washington Post.
Trump and Harris are deadlocked among voters according to a new CNN poll, with Democrats leading by a one percent margin.
A recent Quinnipiac University poll showed similar neck-and-neck results, only with Trump ahead by one percentage point. Other projections show Harris leading by a larger margin. The latest Reuters poll has Harris up six points nationally.
Meanwhile, Trump announced Iran had threatened to kill him and “will try again,” he said, after being briefed by US intelligence officials.
During remarks about manufacturing in North Carolina on Wednesday, the former president suggested that trade policy was a motive.

Full story: Mike Johnson defies Trump to throw out bill without requiring a vote
Eric Garcia report to The Independent from Capitol Hill:
House Speaker Mike Johnson has rebuffed former president Donald Trump’s overtures by letting the House of Representatives vote to approve a spending bill to keep the government funded until December – despite the fact that it does not include provisions to tighten elections.
Trump has previously urged House Republicans not to agree to a continuing resolution without the SAVE Act, which he claims would prevent illegal immigrants from voting. This, despite the fact that US law has banned this practice in federal elections.
“If Republicans don’t get the SAVE Act, and every ounce of it, they don’t agree with the Continuing Resolution in any way, shape, or form,” Trump wrote on Truth Social last week.
