Last week’s General Hospital saw Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) warn Ava Jerome (Maura West) that John Cates (Adam Harrington) was planning to kill her. Well, Ava didn’t believe it, and now she’s in trouble. It may be until Sonny saves her from a vengeful FBI agent who has lost all morality.
Many GH fans have complained about how the show has written Jagger back, making the vendetta completely unhinged. They went through the trouble of casting a talented actor like Adam Harrington, only to mess up. To be fair, John does have a legitimate grudge against Sonny. This happened to Scott Baldwin’s (Kin Shriner) daughter, Karen Wexler (Cheryl Richardson). Sonny drugged her and forced her to strip in a seedy club back in the early ’90s. Karen became an addict, and she lived on a dark street for years before she got clean and then tragically died. That’s why Scott still hates Sonny to this day, and the same with Jagger.
Of course, we all know General Hospital isn’t going to send Sonny to prison for long. They have romanticized the mob so much over the years that when John first appeared, I knew it wouldn’t work out. Now it looks like Ava could be collateral damage if she can’t find a way out of this mess. Sonny might be able to convince him to believe that he’s making a better offer. The problem is, he believes Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi) is a fake version of events and thinks Ava pushed her pregnant daughter out the window.
General Hospital: Kristina Corinthos-Davis Jail Bound?
What does Kristina have to do to tell the truth at General Hospital? He kept repeating the lie to himself, trying to convince himself that it was true. But she knew Ava was barely touching her, and it was Kristina’s own actions that led to her tripping and falling. He shouldn’t have been there. If Sonny doesn’t make things up with Ava, Kristina could end up in jail for assaulting a federal witness. Some of the pictures look bad enough for even Molly Lansing-Davis (Haley Pullos) to believe Jagger’s version of events.
As Sonny predicted in GH, Jagger basically confirmed his plans to kill Ava and frame Sonny. It’s a plausible narrative: Ava wants to take Kristina down to try to kill, which Kristina does because Sonny, so get rid of Ava to stop. It’s a well-crafted plot on Jagger’s part.
In a recent GH episode, Ava quickly realized she was on the wrong horse and should have accepted Sonny’s help when he offered it. He notices the female agent guarding him, Linda Boyle (Amor Owens), is wearing expensive designer shoes instead of standard issue FBI shoes. When Boyle goes to get Ava’s coffee, Ava rifles through her bag and finds a phone burner and a huge wad of cash. Putting it all together, Ava realizes that Sonny is right – she is in trouble.
General Hospital: Did Jagger Cates Kill Ava Jerome?
At the same time, Sonny gets confirmation from John himself that he intends to make sure Ava cannot recant her testimony. Without speaking directly, Jagger explained that he was going to kill her to make sure she couldn’t take it again. Kristina also wants Ava dead, which is interesting because later this week, Jagger pressured Kristina at PCPD to give her what she wanted – Sonny in jail, not her.
The best way out of this mess is for Sonny to find Ava and get her away from Jagger and the dirty agents he pays to help him. Ava would probably be happy to accept whatever Sonny offered if it could get her out of this situation. Jagger may have planned to kill her, whether she testified against Kristina or Sonny, to lock her statement and make it look like standard mob witness intimidation and murder.
General Hospital: Tragic Death of Sam McCall?
Ava underestimated Jagger and how much he hated Sonny. He was not only a delinquent of his oath; it is killed, unhinged, and at the point of no return. Luckily for Ava, Sonny knows she needs to stop, and so does Jason Morgan (Steve Burton). With mob bosses and enforcers on the job, it shouldn’t be long. Brick (Stephen A. Smith) or Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) can probably help track Ava down, and then Jason and Sonny can get her out of there.
The big question is whether we will see another death at General Hospital. News recently broke that Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) was killed off after the actress was fired after twenty years of the role created for her. A source said Sam’s death was “story-driven,” but it was a terrible excuse. The writer drives the story, not the other way around. He chose to fire Kelly and kill Sam.
So, will Jagger also die before all is said and done? The show has hired new people, which means they need to make room in the budget. I’ve reported several times that I got a leak about Adam Harrington coming out, and there’s more talk about it elsewhere. He was first hired under contract and even appeared in the opening credits. But a few weeks ago, GH removed John Cates from the order. Suddenly, Jack Brennan (Charles Mesure) is in the opening credits with a more prominent role as he appears to have stepped out of the soap opera.
General Hospital: Sonny Corinthos to the Rescue?
I think part of that is because of the fan reaction—they don’t like Jagger but they like Brennan. Perhaps it’s because Brennan is unapologetically villainous, while Jagger hides behind a badge. There’s no storyline reason for Jagger to be alive, and we all know that Sonny won’t be in prison for long, if at all. There’s no point in keeping a vengeful FBI agent around when the writers won’t let him serve his purpose.
Maybe Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) will report him, and he will be recalled to DC. Or maybe Ava will kill someone in self-defense. I’m all for the damsel in distress save herself, and if it comes down to Agent Boyle versus Ava, the money is in the crowd. However, I suspect Sonny will save her, and then Ava will have to make up for it by retracting the statement Jagger forced her to make.
