Ellen DeGeneres revealed that she has been diagnosed with osteoporosis, obsessive-compulsive disorder and ADHD.
During his latest Netflix special “For Your Consideration,” which aired Tuesday, the 66-year-old comedian opened up about his recent triple diagnosis as he got candid about aging.
DeGeneres recalled that she took a “stupid bone density test” on her doctor’s recommendation and learned that she had “full blown osteoporosis.”
“I don’t even know how I stand up now. I’m like a human sandcastle. I could disintegrate in the shower,” he told the audience.
Osteoporosis is a “bone disease that develops when bone mineral density and bone mass decrease, or when bone structure and strength change. This disease can “cause a decrease in bone strength that can increase the risk of broken bones, according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.

Nearly 20% of women aged 50 and over have osteoporosis, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
DeGeneres later admitted that “it’s hard to be honest about getting old and looking cool,”
“I was in a lot of pain one day and I thought I tore a ligament or something and I got an MRI and they said, ‘No, it’s just arthritis.’ I said, ‘How do I get it?’ And she said, ‘Oh, it just happens at your age,'” the former “Ellen” actress said.
DeGeneres also revealed that her therapist diagnosed her with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). “Finding Dory” tells viewers that she entered therapy because she was “trying to deal with all the hate that came at me.”
“I’m like a human sandcastle. I can disintegrate in the shower.”
In July 2020, DeGeneres’ long-running daytime talk show “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” was rocked by allegations of a toxic workplace from an ex, as well as accusations of sexual misconduct by a fired producer. DeGeneres apologized to her staff in a statement and apologized again on air during the premiere of the 18th season in September 2020.
In 2021, DeGeneres announced that her show would end after its 19th season The last episode aired in May 2022.
During her Netflix special, DeGeneres said “I might have OCD because my therapist said and I said, ‘Yeah, I’m very organized,’ because I thought O.
“I don’t know what OCD is,” she continued. “I was raised in a religion, Christian Science, that doesn’t recognize illness or disorder. So when I was growing up, nobody said anything. There was no discussion.”
“Now I look back and I know my dad must have had OCD,” DeGeneres said of Elliott’s father.
He continued, “He’ll check the doorknob 15 times before we leave, he’ll check the faucet 15 times, he’ll unplug all the appliances before leaving the house because lightning can strike and it can catch fire. it can be passed down through generations.”
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, OCD is “a chronic disorder in which a person experiences uncontrollable and persistent thoughts (obsessions), engages in repetitive behaviors (compulsions), or both.”

The comedian said that after a therapy session, he asked his wife Portia de Rossi if she thought DeGeneres might have OCD.
“And she said, ‘Yes, you are,'” DeGeneres recalled. “No sentence really comes out. It’s funny. I never think of myself as obsessive. I think I’m careful and others are careless and out of control.”
In addition, DeGeneres revealed that she has attention deficit disorder (ADD), which is now called ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).
ADHD is a “developmental disorder marked by persistent symptoms of inattention and/or hyperactivity and impulsivity that interfere with functioning or development,” according to the National Institute of Mental Health.
“My ADD makes it very difficult to sit down and focus on anything,” DeGeneres said.
“I mean, do you know how hard it is for me to put this together?” he added he was special.

“Of course you don’t,” DeGeneres continued. “Why would I ask a question? Why would I ask a question like that? Why do people believe in people who can’t answer them?”
“I had a hard time focusing,” DeGeneres admitted as the audience laughed.
“So, I have ADD, I have OCD, I’m losing my memory,” he said. “But I think I’m well organized because I’m so eager, but I don’t have the attention to keep up, and I quickly forget what I wanted to do in the first place.”
“So, I need every method to be well organized, I think.”
At the end of her special, which she said would be her last before she retires, DeGeneres thanked the audience.
DeGeneres admitted that in the past, she “has cared too much about what other people think of me.”
“But with time you gain perspective, which is one of the beautiful things about getting older,” he said. “It doesn’t completely make for arthritis or brittle bones. But from a perspective, you realize that caring for what people think for a degree is healthy, but not if it affects mental health.”
“So after a lifetime of caring, I just can’t do it anymore. So I don’t,” she said as the audience cheered.

DeGeneres continued, “But if I’m honest – and I have a choice of people who remember me as a bad person, or a person who is loved.”
“Beloved,” she added. “I chose that.”
