Elle Macpherson be honest about his past struggles with alcohol.
The Australian supermodel and actress, 60, details in her new book, Elle: Life, Lessons, and Learning to Believe in Yourselfpublished on Tuesday, November 19, how he regularly drinks alcohol after giving birth to children, Flynnborn in 1998, and Cyborn in 2003, slept while living in London. (Macpherson shares Flynn, 26, and Cy, 21, with former partners Arpad “Arki” Busson.)
“I often drink after my children go to bed. I will sit alone and drink vodka and then write a to-do list and a letter to my family. I will do housework, listen to music until about 11 o’clock, then fall asleep and pass out,” he wrote. Page SixAlcoholics Anonymous confession details. “I’ll get up early, walk six miles, and drink coffee for breakfast. I’ll stick my finger down my throat and make sure I throw up three times before I go to sleep. It’s three times.”
At one point, Macpherson wrote that he hit rock bottom while on vacation in Ibiza with Busson and his sons. Angry at not being able to join Busson and his friends at the nightclub, he recalls how he tried to open a bottle of vodka. He wrote that he struggled to open it and ended up smashing the top of the glass bottle to open it.
“I immediately fired a shot that could throw glass fragments. And I drank,” he recalled, every time Page Six.
After three drinks, Macpherson had a moment of clarity and poured more vodka away. He booked himself on a plane back to London, where the family lives, and checked into rehab.
“My youngest son is only 6 months old and my oldest is 5 and a half,” she wrote.
Macpherson also wrote about his dependence on alcohol affecting his work. He recalls having a role in the closing ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney but missed it. “I’ve had enough champagne or vodka to calm my nerves that have been bothering me,” he wrote.
“I found myself dead … I would talk to someone and then I would forget what I said. They would look at me quizzically as if waiting for me to continue,” he recalled another AA confession.
However, according to Batman and Robin actress, people around her do not know about her drinking habits because she keeps it visible. “People will tell me that I’m very organized. I’m really proud of that. I think I have to be organized because I drink and I don’t want people to know,” he wrote. “So I make sure the house is clean and tidy; I make sure I look good and I make sure the kids are perfect.
In the book, Macpherson also describes her breast cancer diagnosis, which she first revealed in September. At that time, he said he decided not to treat his cancer with traditional medicine. Instead, the model advocates an “intuitive, guided, holistic approach” to treatment.
“Every day I am active, intentionally nursing my health and taking care of myself,” she wrote. “Cancer is not an option for me anymore. Just like drinking is not the answer for me.”
