Amy Robach experienced the “unique” situation of living alone with her child, Annalize, while divorcing her ex-husband. Andrew Shue.
Robach, 51, and Annalize, 18, talked about their time together on the Monday, Aug. 26, episode of “Amy and TJ“Podcast, which Robach cohosts with his girlfriend TJ Holmes.
“You can see the bad and the negative with the divorce and the upheaval and so on. That’s not something I wish or wish for anyone or any family,” said Robach, a former ABC anchor. GMA3 and 20/20.
“But,” he told Annalize, “we have a unique experience that can be both. And we always have many people in the apartment and many people, different people, live with us at different times.
Annalize replied that living alone with her mother “is a big change,” adding, “But I am think we have (go out) into the groove. (Robach shared Annalize with her first husband, Tim McIntosh.)
Robach was still legally married to Shue, 57, when news broke of his romance with her GMA3 coanchor Holmes, 47, broke up in November 2022. He and Holmes were fired from their jobs amid drama surrounding their relationship. Robach and Holmes said they are in the process of divorcing their partners, Shue and Holmes’ ex-wives. Marilee Fiebigwhen they become romantically involved. (Shue and Fiebig, 46, are starting their own romance.)
In addition to Annalise, Robach shares daughter Ava, 21, with McIntosh, while Holmes shares daughter Sabine, 11, with Fiebig, and daughter Brianna and son Jaiden with his first wife, Amy Ferson.
As for her family, Annalize prefers to move forward, not backward.
“I would always say not to dwell on the past,” he said, sharing a life lesson he learned from the past few years. “That’s going to be my big thing. Everything happens for no good reason, but in the end, everything works out.
He added, “And I think this applies to college as well. There are a lot of things that are going to happen to me, and I have to keep going.
After graduating from high school earlier this year, Annalize is off to the University of Colorado at Boulder and will spend her first semester studying abroad in Spain.
“I’ve only had, like, 1 or 2 flares in 18 years,” Robach said of his relationship with his youngest. “And, I just appreciate it. You’re so calm and cool. Like, you’re a cool girl. Everyone wants you as their friend.”
He compared Annalize to Holmes, observing, “Like, TJ is a cool guy. Everybody wants him to be happy. You have the same quality.”
Despite preparing to become an empty nester, a special source told Us Weekly last month, Robach’s friends “have told me they’ve never seen him so happy.”
She and Holmes are excited about their future as a couple, but are in no rush to get married.
“They haven’t moved in together yet, but they spend almost every night together,” the source said, adding that the pair are committed to being “forever” together. “He’s not in a hurry because before his friends, he doesn’t want to spoil anything.”
